In the quiet, rural landscape of Hennessey, Oklahoma, a brutal act of violence shattered the calm on November 20, 2022. On that day, Quirong Lin, a 44-year-old Chinese man, was killed in what investigators would later describe as a mass murder. The incident unfolded at a 10-acre marijuana farm, where Lin was one of several workers. The remote property became the scene of a deadly confrontation that would leave four people dead and another seriously injured.
The events of that evening
were precipitated by a demand for money. Chen Wu, a 45-year-old Chinese national who had previously worked at the farm, returned and demanded $300,000, which he considered a return on his investment in the illegal marijuana operation. When the workers could not produce the sum on such short notice, Wu opened fire. In a garage on the property, he shot and killed Quirong Lin, along with three other Chinese nationals: Chen He Chun, Chen He Qiang, and Fang Hui Lee. A fifth individual, Yi Fei Lin, was also shot but survived his injuries.
Following the killings, the suspect, Chen Wu, fled the state. A manhunt ensued, and two days later, he was apprehended in Miami Beach, Florida, after a tag reader on his vehicle flagged his location to law enforcement. Wu was extradited back to Oklahoma to face charges for his crimes. The investigation into the quadruple homicide also shed light on the illicit nature of the marijuana farm, which was operating with an illegally obtained license.
Ultimately, Chen Wu was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault and battery with a deadly weapon. In February 2024, he pleaded guilty to all charges. As a result of his plea agreement, Wu was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for each of the murder counts, ensuring he would spend the rest of his life behind bars for the violent deaths of Quirong Lin and the other victims.
