On a tragic Sunday morning, October 21, 2012, in Brookfield, Wisconsin, the life of Cary Lynn Robuck, a 35-year-old White female, was cut short in a senseless act of violence. A loving mother and dedicated manicurist at the Azana Salon and Spa, Robuck was known for her kind and caring nature, always prioritizing others, especially her daughter.
The perpetrator was identified as 45-year-old Radcliffe Franklin Haughton. Haughton's estranged wife, Zina Haughton, also worked at the salon.
In the weeks leading up to the shooting, Zina had obtained a restraining order against him due to domestic abuse, which legally prohibited him from possessing a firearm. Despite this, on the day before the shooting, Haughton illegally purchased a. 40-caliber semiautomatic handgun from a private seller he connected with through an online marketplace.
On that fateful morning, Haughton took a taxi to the Azana Salon & Spa. He entered the salon around 11 a.m. and opened fire. The scene was one of chaos and terror as gunshots rang out. When police arrived, they found a building filled with smoke from a fire that Haughton had started.
In the end, Haughton had shot seven women. Cary Lynn Robuck was among the three women who were fatally wounded; she died from a gunshot wound to the neck. The other deceased victims were Zina Haughton, age 42, and Maelyn Lind, age 38. Four other women were injured but survived. After his rampage, Radcliffe Haughton was found dead inside the spa from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No arrests were made as the sole suspect took his own life at the scene. The incident was determined to be a murder-suicide rooted in domestic violence.
