In the summer of 2016, a dispute over a ninety-dollar cellphone bill tragically escalated, leading to the death of London D. Street, a 28-year-old Black male. The fatal encounter unfolded on the evening of June 15, 2016, in a gangway near 26th and Brown in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Witnesses later recounted that Street was involved in a verbal altercation with two other men in a side yard shortly before the shooting.
One of the men, identified as Edward Warrior, was seen armed with a pistol.
The argument reportedly turned physical when Warrior punched Street in the head. Following the initial assault, the confrontation quickly turned deadly. According to one witness, as the altercation escalated, Street grabbed the barrel of one of the firearms present. In response, Warrior shot Street multiple times. Another witness reported hearing approximately six gunshots in rapid succession and then saw Street on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders arrived at the scene but were unable to save him; London D. Street was pronounced dead in the gangway. An autopsy later determined that he had sustained seven gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation into Street's murder led Milwaukee police to 24-year-old Edward Warrior. Following the shooting, Warrior and another individual reportedly fled the scene, eventually abandoning a vehicle that was later found by police. Warrior was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide as party to a crime, use of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
In February 2018, Edward Warrior reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree intentional homicide while armed. Warrior was then remanded into custody to await his sentencing, which was scheduled for April of that year, bringing a legal conclusion to the senseless act of violence that claimed the life of London D. Street.
