On December 5, 2017, Abigail Voeks, a 27-year-old female, was found deceased in a condominium in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Authorities discovered her body along with that of 30-year-old Zakoree Mitschke in what was being investigated as a probable murder-suicide. The discovery was made after the Mukwonago Police Department requested a welfare check when Voeks did not return to her home.
Voeks, a resident of Mukwonago, was a nursing student and the mother of a six-year-old son, Liam.
Her mother described her as a victim of domestic abuse. Friends and family remembered her as a loving, caring, and compassionate person who cherished her son and enjoyed the outdoors. In the wake of her death, a GoFundMe page was established to support her son.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department publicly identified both Voeks and Mitschke and confirmed the investigation was ongoing. The incident was isolated to the condominium where they were found, and authorities did not seek any suspects as it was treated as a homicide/suicide case. A memorial gathering for Abigail Voeks was held on December 16, 2017.
