In the early morning hours of June 22, 2020, the life of Adam David Baith, a 38-year-old Caucasian male from Neenah, Wisconsin, was tragically cut short. Officers responding to a call discovered Baith's body at a residence on Adams Street. It was determined that he had been fatally shot in what authorities would soon investigate as a homicide. The unexpected and violent nature of his death sent ripples of shock and grief through his community.
Adam, born in Appleton on Christmas Day in
1981, was remembered by friends and family as a kind-hearted and loyal man who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a graduate of Appleton North High School and had pursued a degree at Fox Valley Technical College. His interests included video games, fishing, and spending cherished time with his loved ones at his family's cabin. Those who knew him described him as a spark of joy with a great personality and a huge heart, a hardworking and dedicated friend who would be deeply missed.
In the wake of the shooting, the Neenah Police Department launched an intensive investigation to bring the person responsible for Adam's death to justice. Their efforts led them to a person of interest, and in July of 2020, an arrest was made in Milwaukee. The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Donald Lee Billings.
The legal process moved forward, and in January 2021, Donald Lee Billings was convicted for his role in Adam Baith's death. A jury found him guilty of 1st Degree Homicide and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The conviction brought a measure of closure to a community shaken by the senseless act of violence and to a family grieving the profound loss of a beloved son and brother.
