In the small community of Sheldon, Wisconsin, the life of Jesse Ray O'Brien, a 36-year-old Caucasian male, was cut tragically short on the evening of Friday, April 9, 2021. Known for his kind and generous nature, his bright, welcoming smile, and warm hugs, Jesse was a man deeply loved by many in his community. His passion for craftsmanship was evident in his earlier career as an exceptional carpenter, a trade he was forced to abandon after a serious motorcycle accident in 2010.
Despite
this setback, Jesse's love for building and creating never waned. He channeled this passion into working on motorcycles, skillfully using old bikes and their parts to construct his own unique creations, which he proudly called "O'Brien Built." He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as boating, fishing, and spending time with his friends. His playful spirit shone through when he was with his nieces and nephews, and he took delight in teaching his beloved dog, Princess, new tricks.
The circumstances of his untimely death unfolded following a 911 call to the Rusk County Sheriff's Office at approximately 6:29 PM, reporting an altercation at a residence in the Township of Marshall. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Jesse deceased from a single gunshot wound. The investigation that followed led to the arrest of his 59-year-old father, Scott O'Brien, who was taken into custody. The recommended charge was homicide by intoxicated use of a firearm. The Rusk County Sheriff's office, along with the Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Rusk County Medical Examiner's Office, continued to investigate the heart-wrenching incident that left a family and a community in mourning.
