On the night of July 4, 2021, a Black/African American teenage girl’s life was tragically cut short in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Narianna Nichole Staten, an 18-year-old female, was shot and killed near 26th and Burleigh around 11:35 p.m.. When first responders arrived, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family remembers her as a young woman with an "amazing smile and love for others," whose light "never dimmed" despite any hardships she faced.
The circumstances surrounding
Narianna’s death quickly became a frantic search for a missing child. Following the shooting, an Amber Alert was issued for her 19-month-old son. The suspect in both her death and the abduction was identified as 20-year-old Renado Hall, the father of the child.. According to reports, Hall forcibly took the toddler while armed with a handgun and fled the scene.. The young boy was thankfully found safe the following morning.
Family members indicated that Narianna was trying to distance herself from Hall, a situation that experts in domestic violence recognize as a particularly dangerous time for victims. In the wake of the tragedy, police launched a search for Hall, who was considered armed and dangerous.. The search for the man who had irrevocably shattered a family continued for months.
After a lengthy investigation and search, Renado Hall was arrested in April 2022. In November of that same year, he reached a plea deal for the fatal shooting of the mother of his child. In February 2023, a Milwaukee County judge sentenced the 22-year-old Hall to 30 years in prison for Narianna's murder.. He will also serve 10 years of extended supervision upon his release.
