On a tragic day at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington, Alan Wade London, a 40-year-old White male, lost his life in a horrific act of violence. On June 20, 1994, a gunman opened fire at the base hospital, forever changing the lives of many. London was among the four individuals fatally shot during the rampage that also left 22 others wounded. The other victims who perished in the attack were Anita Louise Knight Lindner, 39, Christin F. McCarron, 8, and Dr.
Thomas Erwin Brigham, 31.
The perpetrator of this senseless act was identified and neutralized at the scene. A security policeman on bicycle patrol, Senior Airman Andrew Brown, responded to the active shooter situation. Brown confronted the gunman and, after his orders to drop the weapon were ignored, fired at the assailant, killing him. An investigation confirmed that the gunman acted alone, and with his death at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the shooting. The incident was a deeply traumatic event for the Fairchild Air Force Base community and all those affected by the sudden and violent loss of life.
