On a Monday morning in Vancouver, Washington, the life of 45-year-old Ryan Momeny, a White male, was tragically cut short in a shocking act of workplace violence. The incident unfolded on February 3, 2014, at the Benjamin Moore Paint distribution warehouse where Momeny worked as a logistics manager. What began as a seemingly ordinary day ended in a horrifying murder-suicide that left the community stunned.
Around 11:30 a.m., emergency services received a call reporting a shooting at the
Westside Business Center. Upon arrival, police discovered Momeny's body outside the business; he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation quickly led officers to a parked car in the warehouse's parking lot. Inside, they found the body of 64-year-old Robert R. Brown, a driver for the same company. Brown had died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Vancouver Police Department's Major Crimes Team launched an investigation and determined that Brown had come to the workplace on his day off and shot Momeny before taking his own life. Authorities treated the case as a murder-suicide and stated that there were no other suspects involved in the incident. While the motive for the shooting remained unclear to investigators, colleagues described the work environment as generally friendly.
Momeny had been a dedicated employee of Benjamin Moore Paints since 1985 and had been a manager for the last decade of his career. He lived in the nearby city of Camas with his wife. The tragic event prompted a temporary lockdown at a nearby elementary school as a precautionary measure while police secured the scene. The investigation concluded with the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office officially ruling Momeny's death a homicide and Brown's death a suicide. No arrests were made as the sole suspect was deceased.
