On June 19, 2015, the body of 58-year-old Steven Stead was discovered by a pedestrian, lying face down in a ditch off of 14th Avenue NE on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. An investigation determined that the Marysville, Washington man had been shot in the back of the head. Detectives quickly began to piece together the events leading to his death, uncovering a story rooted in a struggle with disability and an attempt to make ends meet through the sale of his prescription pain medication.
