In the quiet community of Manson, Washington, a tragic series of events unfolded on September 8, 2015, culminating in the death of 50-year-old Maria G. Sedano. The day began with the discovery of two men, 24-year-old Edgar Cisneros-Costumbre and 58-year-old Jose Luis Leyva Rodriguez, shot to death in a vehicle in an orchard.
The investigation quickly led authorities to suspect Maria's husband, 56-year-old Benito Caro Sedano, as the gunman.
It was later revealed that Cisneros-Costumbre had been a potential witness in a 2014 kidnapping and murder case in which Benito was the primary suspect. As law enforcement closed in, a confrontation ensued. Benito fired multiple shots at a Chelan County Sheriff's deputy, striking the patrol car but not injuring the officer.
Following the shootout, a search warrant was executed at the Sedano residence on Ivan Morse Road. Inside, officers made a grim discovery: the bodies of both Maria G. Sedano and her husband, Benito. The investigation concluded that Benito Caro Sedano had shot and killed his wife before taking his own life.
In the aftermath of the four deaths, the couple's 29-year-old son, Benny G. Sedano, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and questioned by detectives regarding the shootings. However, he was not ultimately charged in connection with the violent events of that day.
