In the late summer of 2015, the quiet community of Manson, Washington, was rocked by a tragic and violent series of events that began with the death of 24-year-old Edgar Cisneros-Costumbre. On September 8th, the body of Cisneros-Costumbre, a male resident of Manson, was discovered in a vehicle in an orchard off Ivan Morse Road. He was not alone; alongside him was 58-year-old Jose Luis Leyva Rodriguez.
Both men had been fatally shot.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly pointed to a prime suspect: Benito Caro Sedano. Authorities believed Sedano's motive was to silence Cisneros-Costumbre, who was a potential witness in a kidnapping and murder case against him. The day of the shooting was just before Sedano was scheduled to appear in court on charges related to the earlier crime. It is believed that Sedano shot both Cisneros-Costumbre and Rodriguez in the orchard to prevent testimony.
Following the discovery of the bodies, the situation escalated. A Chelan County deputy responding to the scene encountered a man on an ATV, believed to be Sedano, who opened fire on the patrol car, striking it multiple times before fleeing. This led to a standoff at a nearby residence on Ivan Morse Road. When law enforcement eventually gained access to the home, they found two more bodies: Benito Caro Sedano and his wife, Maria G. Sedano. The investigation concluded that Benito Caro Sedano had killed his wife before taking his own life.
In the aftermath of the violence, Benito Caro Sedano's son, Benny G. Sedano, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. He was interviewed by investigators regarding the shootings, but as of the information released, he was not charged in connection with the deaths of Edgar Cisneros-Costumbre and Jose Luis Leyva Rodriguez. The case ultimately concluded with the death of the primary suspect.
