Kettel, a 52-year-old White/Caucasian woman, passed away on October 19, 2017. Known for her warm presence and dedication, Sheila was a beloved paraeducator and librarian at Franklin Elementary School, where she had a special connection with the students.
Her creative library displays and willingness to help children find the perfect book were cherished by both students and staff. She was a familiar and welcoming face for many, often being the first to greet them in the morning.
The morning of her death, Sheila was found on the Olympic Discovery Trail at the 9/11 Waterfront Memorial Park. According to reports from the Port Angeles police, her death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident was witnessed by two individuals who were at the park. They reported seeing her walking toward the water with a gun. When one of the witnesses approached and asked what she was doing, she quickly moved away and then shot herself.
