In the early morning hours of November 3, 2019, a tragic incident unfolded in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle, claiming the life of 56-year-old Sam Nang Lam. A Vietnamese immigrant who had moved to the United States to build a better life for his family, Lam was asleep in his home on the 1000 block of South Donovan Street when the unthinkable happened.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., multiple gunshots were fired into the residence, with several bullets striking and fatally wounding him.
The senseless act of violence that ended Lam's life was the result of the house being mistakenly targeted. According to his daughter, he was sleeping downstairs when the barrage of bullets pierced their home. The devastating event left his family, including his wife, children, and grandson whom he had brought from Vietnam in 2017, heartbroken. His obituary remembered him as a man who "gave up everything to see his children have a better life."
In the days following the shooting, Seattle police identified a person of interest. After locating the suspect's vehicle in Kent, detectives conducted surveillance for a couple of days. They eventually followed the suspect to SeaTac, where they initiated a traffic stop and arrested a 25-year-old man. The suspect was subsequently booked into the King County Jail as the homicide investigation continued.
