In the heart of downtown Seattle, on a busy Wednesday, the life of 50-year-old Tanya Jackson was tragically cut short. On January 22, 2020, a dispute between several men erupted in gunfire at the intersection of Third Avenue and Pine Street, a bustling area of the city, especially during the evening rush hour. Jackson, an innocent bystander, was fatally wounded in the chaos that ensued.
Seven other individuals were also injured in the shooting, including a 9-year-old boy.
Tanya Jackson was a cherished member of the Plymouth Housing community, an organization dedicated to providing stable housing for those who have experienced homelessness. She had been a resident since 2011 and was remembered by those who knew her as a resilient woman with a big heart and a caring nature. In the aftermath of the shooting, the Seattle Police Department launched an intensive investigation to bring those responsible to justice. One suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident. Authorities also publicly identified two other suspects who remained at large: Marquis Tolbert and William Tolliver.
