On a summer evening in Seattle, Washington, 18-year-old Adriel Terrell Webb, a Black male, was fatally shot on July 20, 2020. A recent graduate of Seattle Urban Academy, Webb had his sights set on the future, with plans to study engineering at Highline Community College that fall. The night he was killed, he was with two friends on their way home from a barbecue when their vehicle experienced engine trouble, forcing them to pull over at a gas station at the intersection of 23rd and Cherry.
As Webb and one of his friends were looking under the hood of the car to diagnose the problem, they were suddenly ambushed. In a hail of gunfire, Webb was struck multiple times. His friend was also hit, and another person was reported injured in the incident. Adriel Terrell Webb was the only one to sustain fatal injuries in the attack.
The Seattle Police Department responded to the scene, but the assailant or assailants had already fled. The investigation into Webb's murder was hampered by the fact that the surveillance camera at the gas station was not operational at the time of the shooting, leaving detectives without a description of the suspect or suspects.
