On the afternoon of January 31, 2022, a road rage incident in Tacoma, Washington, claimed the life of 56-year-old Victor Scott, a male resident of Graham and a truck driver. Scott was a passenger in the backseat of a car, accompanied by a female driver and another male passenger, as they were reportedly looking to sell a catalytic converter. Near South 54th and South Washington Street, their vehicle inadvertently cut off a Hyundai Sonata.
The occupants of the Sonata, angered by being cut
off, pursued the other car, eventually bumping into the back of it. They then brandished firearms and opened fire on the vehicle. During the shooting, Scott was struck by a bullet and cried out that he had been hit. The driver of the car he was in sped away to ensure they were no longer being followed before pulling over to call for emergency services.
Scott was initially driven to a local hospital and then transferred to Tacoma General Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to a gunshot wound to the back. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office later ruled his death a homicide. In the days following the shooting, the Tacoma Police Department, with the assistance of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team, arrested a 24-year-old male suspect. The suspect was booked into jail and subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Victor Scott's death.
