In the early morning hours of May 6, 2022, the life of 25-year-old Deandre Hunter, a student at Washington State University, was tragically cut short in Pullman, Washington. The incident unfolded around 2:00 a.m. in the parking lot of the Pimlico Apartments. First responders were dispatched to the scene following a report that a male, later identified as Hunter, had sustained a gunshot wound.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Hunter with a single, severe wound to his abdomen. Immediate first aid was rendered at the scene until paramedics arrived and transported him to Pullman Regional Hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention, Deandre Hunter succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A handgun was recovered from the location of the incident by Pullman Police Department detectives who initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Initially, the nature of the shooting was under investigation, with authorities assuring the public that there was no ongoing threat. Following a thorough investigation by Pullman police detectives, in cooperation with the Whitman County Coroner's Office, it was determined that Hunter's death was the result of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation concluded without any indication of foul play, and therefore, no arrests were made nor were any suspects sought in connection with this tragic event.
