On a summer day in Tonasket, Washington, the life of 56-year-old Kimberly Smith was tragically cut short. On June 20, 2022, Kimberly, a female, was shot and killed in her home. She was not the only victim that day; her 26-year-old son, Raymond Edward Smith, also lost his life in the violent encounter.
The events leading to the deaths of Kimberly and her son reportedly stemmed from a dispute with a neighbor. An argument had broken out concerning a construction project that the Smiths and their neighbor, Scott Pollock, were working on together. The disagreement escalated, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. When deputies from the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office arrived at the residence on Cape Labelle Road, they discovered both Kimberly and Raymond Smith with fatal gunshot wounds.
Scott Pollock, who was 61 years old at the time, also sustained a gunshot wound to his arm during the altercation. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment before being transferred to a medical center in Seattle. Pollock informed law enforcement that he believed he had shot Raymond Smith in the chest during their confrontation.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the double homicide. While the investigation was reported as ongoing, initial news reports indicated that no arrests had been made. The community was left to mourn the loss of a mother and her son, whose lives were abruptly ended in a burst of neighborhood violence.
