On the evening of June 26, 2022, a violent encounter in Othello, Washington, claimed the life of 50-year-old Hispanic male Felipe G. Garza. The incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m. near the railroad tracks in the 2200 block of West Charla Road. Authorities responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Garza with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The subsequent investigation by the Adams County
Sheriff's Office led them to two suspects, teenage brothers Arturo Pineda-Feliciano, 16, and his younger brother, Gustavo Pineda-Feliciano, 14. The pair were located and apprehended two days after the shooting, on June 28, at a hotel in Sunnyside. Law enforcement officials identified both brothers as alleged members of the ESL gang and have stated that the shooting was gang-related. It has not been publicly disclosed whether Garza knew his attackers.
Following the arrests, authorities announced their intention to charge the primary suspect, Arturo Pineda-Feliciano, as an adult. He was expected to face multiple felony charges for his role in the fatal shooting. The Adams County Sheriff's Office did not immediately specify what role, if any, the younger brother played in the incident. Prosecutors began working on formalizing the charges against the two brothers in connection with Garza's death.
