In the summer evening of July 14, 2022, the life of 15-year-old Tidus Kristian Linville-Goodwin was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire at Spruce Park in Lynnwood, Washington. The young male was at the park with a friend, 16-year-old Jesus Sanchez Camunas Jr., when a drive-by shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Both teenagers sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were rushed to local hospitals, but neither survived their injuries.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that both deaths were homicides resulting from gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly focused on a distinctive 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe, described as having a white body with a black front fender and hood. Authorities released a description of the vehicle to the public, asking for any information regarding its whereabouts or occupants on the night of the shooting. The Lynnwood Police Department, in collaboration with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and the Violent Offenders Task Force, dedicated significant resources to solving the case that had shaken the community. Investigators believed the shooting was gang-related.
Nearly a year later, in June 2023, a significant breakthrough in the case led to the arrests of three suspects. Two adults, 29-year-old Jose Alfredo Beteran and 24-year-old Christian Jovany Chavez, along with a 16-year-old juvenile, were taken into custody. All three were charged with two counts of aggravated first-degree murder. Court documents revealed that the shooting was allegedly part of a gang initiation. It is believed the suspects drove to the park after hearing about "tagging" by a rival gang. After a brief verbal exchange about gang affiliations with Linville-Goodwin and Sanchez Camunas Jr., shots were reportedly fired from the back seat of the Tahoe. Forensic evidence, including DNA from the impounded vehicle, placed all three suspects inside the SUV at the time of the murders.
