In the quiet town of Corbin, Kentucky, a darkness was brewing within the Hendrix family home that would soon shatter the community's sense of peace. Twelve-year-old Grace Hendrix, a bright and bubbly middle school cheerleader with a promising future, found her life tragically cut short on February 11, 2015. She was a sixth-grader at Corbin Intermediate School, known for being on the Honor Roll and an active participant in the Student Council.
Her life, however, would be ended not by a stranger, but by a member of her own family in an act of violence that also claimed the lives of her parents.
On that fateful February day, Grace, along with her father, Kevin Hendrix, 53, and her mother, Dr. Sarah Hendrix, 54, were found deceased in their home on Forest Circle Drive. The discovery was made after police in Baltimore County, Maryland, contacted the Corbin Police Department to conduct a welfare check. This request came after a violent encounter with the Hendrix's 16-year-old son, Jason.
The investigation into the triple homicide quickly pointed to Jason Hendrix as the primary suspect. It is believed that on the evening of February 11th, Jason shot his parents and his younger sister. His father, Kevin, was shot twice in the head, and his mother, Sarah, was shot twice in the face. Grace was shot twice in the head and once in the arm. To muffle the sounds of the gunshots, pillows were used during the attacks. The motive for this horrific act was reportedly a dispute over Jason's computer privileges being taken away by his parents.
After the murders, Jason fled in his mother's SUV, armed with multiple firearms and a significant amount of ammunition. His journey ended in Maryland, where he was involved in a high-speed chase and a subsequent shootout with police. During the confrontation, Jason was fatally shot by officers. There were no arrests to be made in the murders of Grace and her parents, as the sole suspect was deceased. The community was left to mourn the loss of a beloved young girl and her parents, their lives taken in a senseless act of familial violence.
