In the quiet hills of Elliott County, Kentucky, the life of Kelly Lee Glover, a 49-year-old male, was brought to a sudden and violent end on the morning of Friday, February 13, 2015. A self-employed truck driver and a member of the Laborers Local 1445, he was known for his love of hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren. His world, however, was shattered that day in what investigators would describe as an ambush.
The events leading to his death began with a phone call for a gravel delivery to a remote location. It's believed this call was a setup, a lure that drew him to an isolated spot where his assailants lay in wait. Near his gravel truck on Davis Trail Road, Glover was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head. His family believes he was shot twice with a shotgun, once in the chest and then in the face, suggesting a personal and ruthless vendetta. The nature of the attack led his family to believe the perpetrators wanted him to know who they were.
For years, the case remained a painful mystery for his loved ones and the community. The Kentucky State Police continued their investigation, seeking any information that could lead to a breakthrough. It wasn't until the fall of 2021 that significant progress was made. In October, authorities arrested 57-year-old Brian Flannery of Olive Hill, charging him with first-degree murder. Indictments revealed that Flannery was accused of being the one to pull the trigger, ending Kelly Glover's life.
The investigation didn't stop there. Just two months later, in December 2021, a second arrest was made. Randell Nichols, 63, also from Olive Hill, was taken into custody and charged with complicity to capital murder. His indictment alleged that he was involved in the conspiracy, aiding or counseling in the commission of the crime. While the wheels of justice had begun to turn with these arrests, state police indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that more arrests were anticipated, leaving a community to continue to grapple with the violent loss of one of its own.
