In the early morning hours of a Sunday in October 2015, the life of 18-year-old DaMycal Tre Bolton was tragically cut short. The young man from Lexington was in the parking lot of the Eagle Lake Convention Center in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, attending an after-hours party. The night's festivities turned violent when multiple gunshots echoed through the air at approximately 1:30 a.m. Kentucky State Police officers, who happened to be conducting a traffic stop nearby, heard the shots and rushed to the scene. There, they found Bolton unresponsive. He had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Anderson County Coroner.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrests of multiple individuals. Months after Bolton's death, four men were charged in connection with the murder. Kendall R. Berry, 28, and William L. Edwards, 27, faced charges of complicity to murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and first-degree wanton endangerment. Antoine Q. James, 28, and Kenneth R. Berry, 23, were also charged with complicity to murder. Investigators were aided by video footage from the scene which allegedly showed Edwards firing a handgun in the direction of a crowd.
The pursuit of justice did not end there, as law enforcement continued to search for others involved. A fifth and sixth suspect were later apprehended. The sixth suspect was arrested in Chicago seven months after the incident and extradited back to Kentucky to face charges. In total, six individuals were charged in connection with Bolton's death: Kendall Berry, William Edwards, Antoine James, Kenneth Berry, Jordan Jackson, and Mathew Patterson Jr. Patterson, who was 18 at the time of his arrest, was charged with murder and first-degree wanton endangerment. The investigation revealed a chaotic scene where multiple individuals played a role in the events that led to the fatal shooting.
