Calvin Lee Phillips, a 59-year-old male, was found shot to death inside his home on South Main Street on November 19, 2015. The grim discovery was only the beginning of a triple murder investigation that would grip the community.
The investigation took a darker turn when, on the same day, the
burned remains of two other individuals were found in a scorched car in a cornfield a few miles from Pembroke. The victims were identified as Calvin's wife, Pamela Phillips, and their neighbor, Edward Dansereau. It was determined that they too had been shot before the vehicle was set ablaze. The brutal nature of the killings left the victims' family haunted by the violence inflicted upon their loved ones.
For years, the case remained a perplexing puzzle, leaving a shadow of fear and uncertainty over the small town. The family of Calvin and Pam Phillips offered a significant reward for any information that would lead to an arrest and conviction, desperate for answers and justice. The investigation slowly began to focus on a former neighbor, Christian Richard Martin, an American Airlines pilot and a 30-year Army veteran.

The break in the case came in May 2019, when Christian Martin was arrested at the Louisville International Airport. He was indicted on three counts of murder, along with charges of arson, attempted arson, burglary, and tampering with physical evidence.
