On a Saturday afternoon in the small town of Hickman, Kentucky, the community was shaken by an act of violence that claimed the life of David Mackins. On January 27, 2018, the 42-year-old Black male was fatally shot on Holley Court. The Kentucky State Police were alerted to the shooting in the evening and responded to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mackins with injuries consistent with a shooting. The Fulton County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation swiftly led authorities to a suspect. Orlundo Holloway, a 46-year-old man from Hickman, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Holloway was subsequently charged with murder and taken to the Fulton County Jail. An autopsy was scheduled for Mackins to be conducted by the state medical examiner's office as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continued.
In the weeks that followed, the legal process against Holloway moved forward. On March 8, 2018, a grand jury indicted him on multiple charges, including murder, tampering with physical evidence, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. The indictment also included three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer and a charge of being a first-degree persistent felony offender, indicating the gravity of the incident and its aftermath.
