On a summer evening in August 2019, the life of 42-year-old Jennifer Bennett of Campbellsville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On Saturday, August 3rd, authorities were called to a distressing scene on Lyle Road, located between Campbellsville and Columbia. There, they discovered Jennifer Bennett, a female, lying on the ground, having sustained a single gunshot wound. The Taylor County Coroner's Office pronounced her dead at the scene.
Further investigation into the incident revealed a grim sequence of events. Not far from where Bennett's body was found, police located 44-year-old Anthony Underwood of Hodgenville. Underwood was suffering from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was quickly airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington for medical treatment, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and died.
The investigation conducted by the Taylor County Sheriff's Department concluded that the deaths of Jennifer Bennett and Anthony Underwood were the result of a murder-suicide. It was determined that Underwood shot and killed Bennett before turning the gun on himself. As Underwood, the sole suspect in Bennett's murder, was also deceased, no arrests were made in the case. The incident left the community in shock and mourning the loss of Jennifer Bennett, who was remembered as a homemaker and a mother to two sons.
