Christen Dyan Bell, a 45-year-old White/Caucasian woman from Bedford, Kentucky, died on December 26, 2019, after police were drawn to a fast-moving domestic situation in Trimble County that spiraled into a deadly standoff at a residence on Ogden Ridge Road.

That evening, at about 6:04 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 5 received a report of a domestic violence incident. When troopers arrived, they determined that Christopher Bell had been involved in a domestic violence assault involving his brother and mother, and then went back to the home at 44 Ogden Ridge Road. Officers tried to make contact at the residence but could not reach him, and the situation quickly took on the shape of a possible barricade.

With concerns rising, the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team was activated and moved in. Using a robotic device to search the interior, the team located two people inside the home with gunshot wounds that the preliminary investigation indicated were self-inflicted. Christen Bell was pronounced dead at the scene. Christopher Bell was taken by Trimble County EMS to Carroll County Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Kentucky State Police noted the investigation was ongoing and that multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Trimble County Sheriff’s Office, Trimble County EMS, and the Trimble County Coroner.

No arrests were announced, and no suspect was taken into custody; with both individuals deceased and investigators publicly describing the gunshot wounds as self-inflicted in the preliminary findings, there were no criminal charges to pursue. In the days that followed, public death notices reflected a grieving family left to absorb what happened, noting the couple’s surviving children and the community that gathered to mourn them.
