In the summer of 2020, the life of 25-year-old Cameron Michael Phillips was tragically cut short. On August 6th, his remains were discovered in a wooded area adjacent to a cemetery on Old Rocky Point Road near Cadiz, Kentucky. Initially, law enforcement was unable to identify the male victim and released photographs of his clothing and jewelry to the public in the hopes of generating leads.
This included a blue Reebok t-shirt, black AND1 shoes, and two bracelets.
The investigation quickly led authorities to a suspect, Montie E. Streeval, a 31-year-old man from Cadiz. After being interviewed by detectives from the Kentucky State Police, Streeval was arrested on August 10, 2020. He was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. His bond was set at $1 million.
A preliminary autopsy revealed that Cameron Michael Phillips had died from a single gunshot wound to the head. While Streeval allegedly admitted to driving Phillips to Trigg County for a purported drug transaction, he did not confess to the killing. Streeval had a prior criminal record, including a 2011 guilty plea for receiving stolen property and second-degree burglary.
Cameron, a resident of Guthrie, Kentucky, was a graduate of Todd County Central High School. Those who knew him remembered his love for music and basketball. His untimely death left behind a grieving family, including his parents, daughter, siblings, and grandparents.
