In a tragic turn of events that began with a kidnapping, 53-year-old Tammy Rena Earon Beechum of Dover, Tennessee, lost her life on September 22, 2021. The female victim's ordeal started in the parking lot of a business on Lafayette Street in Cadiz, Kentucky, where evidence suggested she was taken by force.
Investigators quickly identified her estranged boyfriend, 65-year-old Thomas Hungerford of Cadiz, as the suspect.
Described as armed and dangerous, Hungerford became the subject of a search by law enforcement. Later that day, around 5 p.m., troopers with the Kentucky State Police spotted Hungerford's vehicle, a Mitsubishi Montero Sport, on U.S. 27 in Lancaster. A brief pursuit ensued, which came to an end on the same road near Stanford in Lincoln County.
Upon approaching the stopped vehicle, troopers made a grim discovery. Inside, they found the bodies of both Tammy Beechum and Thomas Hungerford. The investigation concluded that Hungerford had shot and killed Beechum before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. Authorities confirmed that they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the case. The incident led to the closure of a section of U.S. 27 for several hours as accident reconstruction and investigation took place at the scene.
