Lydia Blanche Cassady, a 39-year-old female, was found shot and killed on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Her death was the tragic result of domestic violence, as she had been preparing to leave her long-time partner.
Lydia was discovered at the Lauren Drive residence where she lived with her boyfriend, Kenneth Strange. Friends and family revealed that the relationship had been abusive for years, and Lydia was making plans to escape with her two children.
She had confided in a friend the month prior that she was intending to leave Strange.
The Jessamine County Coroner's Office identified Lydia Cassady as the victim of the fatal shooting. Law enforcement quickly named her 54-year-old boyfriend, Kenneth Strange, as the suspect in her murder. The Nicholasville Police Department issued charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence against him.
Following the killing, Strange fled the area, prompting a manhunt. He was considered armed and dangerous by authorities. Police believed he left in a black Dodge Ram and may have switched to a black 2019 Jeep Renegade belonging to another woman who was thought to possibly be with him. Lydia was remembered as a devoted mother, a talented baker and a creative individual who loved the outdoors and horses.
