On a tragic day in August of 2011, Laura Therese Zerba Hulke, a 51-year-old woman, lost her life in her Linwood Township, Minnesota, home. Her death, which occurred on August 19, was the result of a fatal gunshot wound. Authorities discovered her body alongside that of her husband, 53-year-old Todd A. Hulke, in what was determined to be a murder-suicide.
The Anoka County Sheriff's Office was called to the couple's residence on Nebula Street NE for a welfare check after Todd Hulke failed
to appear at his job. Inside the home, they found both Laura and Todd Hulke deceased. The subsequent investigation concluded that Todd Hulke had shot his wife before taking his own life with a single gunshot wound to the head. Both individuals were found to have died from these wounds.
Further investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragic event revealed that while there had been no prior domestic abuse calls to their home, acquaintances of the couple were aware of a history of marital problems. A note, penned by Todd Hulke, was also discovered at the scene, though its contents were not made public. This finding supported the conclusion of a murder-suicide, with Todd Hulke being the sole suspect in his wife's death, eliminating the need for any arrests.
Laura was remembered as a longtime employee of the City of Minneapolis. Her obituary described her as a lifelong lover of horses and dogs, with a particular passion for Dobermans. She was actively involved in Doberman rescue efforts, a testament to her dedication to animal welfare.
