Karen Anne Short, aged 48, was found dead on September 10, 2015, in her home in Greenwood, near Excelsior, MN. The tragic incident was part of a murder-suicide carried out by her husband, Brian Short, aged 45. Brian Short fatally shot Karen and their three teenage children: Cole, 17; Madison, 15; and Brooklyn, 14, before taking his own life.
The bodies were discovered by officers conducting a welfare check at the family's residence.
Karen and the children were found in their bedrooms, while Brian was found in the garage. The Hennepin County medical examiner confirmed that all five family members died from shotgun wounds to the head, with Brian's injury being self-inflicted.
No arrests were made as the suspect, Brian Short, was deceased. The motive behind the murder-suicide remains unclear, and the community was left in shock by the tragic loss.
