On a Friday afternoon, February 17, 2017, the quiet of a Rosemount, Minnesota neighborhood was shattered by a grim discovery that would be ruled a murder-suicide. Responding to a request for a welfare check at a home on the 3700 block of 154th Street West at approximately 3:45 p.m., police officers entered the residence to find a tragic scene. Inside, they located the bodies of a married couple, 33-year-old Caucasian female Alicia Ann Keilen and her husband.
A gun was also found near one of the bodies.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed the identities of the deceased and the nature of their deaths. Alicia Keilen's death was officially ruled a homicide, a result of suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Her husband, 42-year-old Justin Joseph Keilen, was determined to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and his manner of death was ruled a suicide.
Authorities, including the Rosemount police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, conducted an investigation into the incident. Based on the evidence found at the scene, law enforcement officials concluded that Justin Keilen shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself. Investigators stated that there was no ongoing threat to the public and they did not believe anyone else was involved in the fatal shootings. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the murder-suicide continued, leaving a community to mourn the violent end to the couple's lives.
