Kurt Beucler, a 58-year-old resident of Big Lake, Minnesota, tragically died on April 3, 2017. Beucler was the third-generation owner of George's Barbershop, a well-known establishment in downtown Osseo. On the day of his death, Beucler set fire to his rural Big Lake home. When firefighters arrived, they were met with a raging blaze and the sound of ammunition exploding inside the house, as Beucler was an avid hunter with a large collection of firearms and ammunition.
As the fire
consumed the home, Beucler was seen holding a handgun. Deputies and first responders attempted to negotiate with him for nearly two hours, urging him to surrender. Despite their efforts, Beucler walked to a tree near the riverbank and fired a single shot, resulting in a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was rushed to Monticello Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
There were no suspects or arrests in this case, as the incident was determined to be a suicide. Beucler's death shocked the community, as he was known for his jovial personality and had recently gone through a divorce. Friends and acquaintances described him as upbeat and always willing to share a joke, making his sudden and tragic death all the more unexpected.
