In a quiet Farmington, Minnesota neighborhood, a grim discovery shattered the peace in late October 2021. Jack John Maloney, a 55-year-old Caucasian male, was found deceased in his home, the victim of a shocking act of violence that also claimed the lives of two of his family members. The tragic events unfolded over a few days but came to light on the evening of Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
Concerns for the whereabouts of 53-year-old Tracy Ahn Maloney prompted a welfare check at the
residence of her ex-husband, Jack Maloney. She had gone to the home to visit her sons earlier that evening, and when she became unreachable for several hours, a friend requested that police investigate. Upon their arrival at the house on 183rd Street West, officers encountered a partially open front door. The man who answered was Blake Thomas Maloney, the 26-year-old son of Jack and Tracy. Almost immediately, Blake Maloney raised his hands and made a startling confession to the officers, stating, "I did something. I murdered them or something."
Inside the home, law enforcement discovered a horrific scene. Tracy Maloney was found on the kitchen floor, having been bludgeoned to death with a hammer. The search of the residence led officers to the basement, where they located Jack John Maloney. He was discovered in a bed, covered by blankets, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The tragedy was compounded by the discovery of another victim on the second floor of the home. Scott Connor Maloney, Jack's 23-year-old son and Blake's younger brother, was also found deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
Blake Maloney was immediately taken into custody and was subsequently charged with three counts of second-degree murder. During his interview with police, he admitted to the killings. He revealed that he had shot his father, Jack, and his brother, Scott, with an AR-15 style rifle a couple of days before his mother's arrival. He stated that when his mother, Tracy, came to the house, he killed her with a hammer because he did not want to use the gun anymore. As a possible insight into his motive, Blake Maloney reportedly told investigators that he did not believe "Jack, Tracy and Scott" were his real family. A hammer and an AR-15 rifle were recovered from the living room of the home.
