Ferdinand Frederick "Bud" Pribbenow, a 47-year-old Caucasian male, was a 22-year veteran of the Kansas Highway Patrol. On the evening of July 11, 1981, the day after his birthday, he was on duty, patrolling the Kansas Turnpike north of El Dorado.
