In the predawn hours of Monday, October 6, 2025, Rodney Logan, a 57-year-old White/Caucasian male from Augusta, Kansas, was fatally shot at El Dorado Lake. Deputies from the Butler County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Goose Cove campsite in the Bluestem Point area of the lake around 4:10 a.m. following a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Rodney Logan with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident began when Logan, an avid fisherman, arrived at the campsite and started to unload his fishing gear. An altercation occurred between Logan and another man who was also at the campsite. The confrontation escalated, and the other man allegedly fired five shots, killing Logan. Authorities have indicated that the two men did not know each other prior to this fatal encounter. The motive for the shooting appears to have been a dispute over a fishing spot.
A suspect was taken into custody at the scene. The individual, identified as 63-year-old Jeffrey Alan Boucher, had reportedly been living out of his SUV at the lake. It was Boucher himself who called 911 to report that he had shot Logan. He was arrested on a pending charge of second-degree murder. Law enforcement officials have stated that they believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no further threat to the public.
