On a tragic Friday afternoon, January 9, 2015, Jon Bieker, a 44-year-old White/Caucasian male, was killed during a violent attempted robbery at his Shawnee, Kansas, gun store. Bieker and his wife, Becky, were co-owners of "She's A Pistol," a business they had built together. The events that led to Bieker's death unfolded when four men entered their establishment with the intent to rob it.
The four individuals, later identified as De'Anthony Wiley, Nicquan Midgyett, Londro Patterson, and
Hakeem Malik, entered the store and confronted Becky Bieker. Two of the men brandished firearms while another assaulted her, striking her in the face and rendering her unconscious. Hearing the commotion from a back room, Jon Bieker emerged with a handgun to defend his wife and their business. A chaotic exchange of gunfire ensued. In the melee, Bieker was fatally wounded.
In the aftermath of the shootout, three of the four robbery suspects had also sustained gunshot wounds. Two of the injured suspects, along with the uninjured one, fled the scene, leaving a trail of discarded clothing. The fourth suspect, De'Anthony Wiley, was shot in the spine and was unable to flee. It was later determined that Wiley fired the shot that killed Jon Bieker.
All four suspects were apprehended and subsequently charged with first-degree felony murder, attempted aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. The investigation revealed that the group had been involved in other robberies prior to the fatal incident at "She's A Pistol." Ultimately, all four men were convicted for their roles in Jon Bieker's death. De'Anthony Wiley, Nicquan Midgyett, Londro Patterson, and Hakeem Malik each received life sentences in prison, with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
