Justin Green, a 35-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, June 22, 2019, in Wichita, Kansas. The incident occurred in a parking lot in the 2400 block of East 17th Street North, where a family gathering was taking place. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Green with a gunshot wound to his body. He was pronounced dead at the location.
The shooting also resulted in injuries to two other men.
Shortly after the initial incident, a 25-year-old man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He received treatment and was subsequently released. Later, on the morning of the following Monday, police were called to a residence on West Cornelison where they found a 22-year-old man who had also been involved in the shooting and had sustained multiple, serious gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening.
Investigators believe that multiple people were involved in the exchange of gunfire. While the shooting happened at a family gathering, police have indicated that the individuals involved in the conflict were not family members but were acquainted with one another. It was also noted by law enforcement that some documented gang members were part of the incident, though they did not believe Justin Green was a member of a gang.
The case of Justin Green's death remains an open and unsolved homicide. The Wichita Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and is seeking information from the public to help piece together the events of that night. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no specific suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the death of Justin Green.
