James L. Gordon, a 41-year-old officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, tragically lost his life on December 14, 1987. Officer Gordon was off-duty and returning to his residence in Largo, Prince George's County, Maryland, when he noticed an open window, suspecting a burglary. As he entered his home with his weapon drawn, a neighbor, seeing a man enter the residence, called the police.
