In the winter of 1987, a dedicated officer of the Metropolitan Police Department, James L. Gordon, a 41-year-old Black male, returned to his home in Largo, Maryland, after his shift. As he approached his residence on December 14th, he noticed a window was open, a detail that immediately signaled a possible burglary in a neighborhood that had been experiencing a recent string of break-ins.
