The incident unfolded on the afternoon of September 1st, in the 1900 block of 16th Street SE. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire around 2:15 p.m. and discovered the young male suffering from a very serious gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Sources indicated he had been shot in the head. Jackson was a former student at Anacostia High School, where a former teacher remembered him as a respectful and loving person who had dreams of becoming a comedian.
The shooting also left a second man wounded. This individual, a driver for a pizza shop who was reportedly making a delivery at the time, was found about a block away from where Jackson was shot. He had been struck in the lower body and was transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition. Police believe he was an innocent bystander caught in the tragic event. A 15-year-old male was taken into custody at a school and charged with first-degree murder while armed. According to a homicide detective's testimony, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between rival neighborhood crews. The detective stated that the suspect and his friends had been in an argument with Jackson and his friends about 30 minutes before the fatal shots were fired. Security camera footage reportedly showed the suspect walking toward the area where Jackson was, touching what appeared to be the handle of a gun in his waistband. During questioning, the 15-year-old initially denied being at the scene but later admitted to firing a gun. Detectives found four bullet shell casings at the location.
