On a Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C., Raheem Murray, a 26-year-old male, was with two other men in the 4300 block of 3rd Street, Southeast, discussing their plans to watch the Super Bowl. It was shortly after 4 p.m. on February 2, 2020, when their conversation was violently interrupted. A dark-colored sedan pulled up and two individuals emerged from the passenger side, opening fire with rifle-style firearms.
The sudden burst of 'rapid gunfire' echoed through the residential neighborhood, prompting officers in the vicinity to rush to the scene.
Raheem Murray was struck by multiple gunshots and fell to the ground. In a brutal act captured on surveillance video, one of the shooters, later identified as Glenn Dolford, ran over to where Murray lay, stood over him, and shot him in the head. The attack was relentless, with a total of fifty-seven rounds of ammunition being fired, also wounding the two other men. One of the other victims sustained ten gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the third man was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, Raheem Murray was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the triple shooting led detectives to review surveillance footage from the area. A clear image of the shooter who executed Murray was extracted and shown to a witness who knew the suspect. The witness identified the man as 26-year-old Glenn Dolford of Southeast, D.C. On June 25, 2020, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Dolford, charging him with First Degree Murder While Armed.
Ultimately, Glenn Dolford pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed, aggravated assault while armed, and assault with a dangerous weapon. In June 2023, a judge sentenced him to 22-and-a-half years in prison for his role in the death of Raheem Murray and the wounding of the two other victims. During the sentencing, Murray's mother conveyed the immense pain her family endured, stating in a letter, 'Based on video evidence, my child was chased down like an animal.' The motive for the shooting was suggested by the defendant's aunt to be a 'quarrel between the neighborhoods' and 'territorial.'
