In the late evening of September 7, 2020, the life of 44-year-old Tracey James Eady Lee was tragically cut short in his Northeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. A Black male, Mr. Lee was a resident of the community where the fatal events unfolded. The quiet of the night was broken around 10:30 PM by the sound of gunshots in the 300 block of 55th Street, Northeast, prompting a swift response from the Sixth District officers of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Upon their arrival at the
scene, officers discovered Mr. Lee suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel were quickly on site and transported him to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the exhaustive life-saving efforts of the medical team, Tracey James Eady Lee succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. As part of their inquiry, they sought assistance from the public, releasing information about a vehicle of interest that was captured on nearby surveillance footage. A substantial reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Mr. Lee's death.
