In the early morning hours of October 1, 2020, the life of 45-year-old Orlando Daniel Miller Sr. was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. Officers from the Fifth District responded to a report of a shooting in the 1700 block of Lang Place, Northeast, where they discovered Miller suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene and, after examining him, pronounced him dead.
His body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
An autopsy confirmed that Orlando Miller Sr. died from a single gunshot wound, and his death was officially ruled a homicide. Known affectionately as 'Dee,' Miller was a father and had attended McKinley Technology High School. He spent many years working in home improvement, a job he loved. Those who knew him remembered his sense of humor and his devotion as a son and father.
Following an investigation by homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department, an arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting. On October 22, 2020, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 64-year-old Tyrone Brown of Northeast, D.C. Brown was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed. At the time of the shooting, Brown was under the supervision of the District's Pretrial Services Agency for previous charges, which included assault with a dangerous weapon and drug-related offenses.
