In the pre-dawn hours of November 22, 2014, Cassandra Rosete, a 27-year-old Caucasian female, made a fateful decision to walk to her job at Sapphire Gentlemen's Club in Las Vegas. Her BMW had been giving her trouble, leaking coolant, so she set out on the two-mile journey on foot around 5 a.m. Her boyfriend had intended to walk with her, but went back inside their apartment to grab warmer clothing. By the time he returned, she was gone.
Tragically, her walk was cut short in an act of senseless violence.
Around 5:30 a.m., police found Rosete on a sidewalk in the 2600 block of Industrial Road with a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into her death revealed that she was the victim of a random shooting. The man responsible, Kevin Meade Jr., 27, of Enid, Oklahoma, had just flown into Las Vegas that night. According to police reports, Meade had been drinking whiskey and beer and was behaving in a drunken and delusional manner in the hours leading up to the shooting.
Meade would later tell investigators that he had been arguing with voices in his head and fired his. 38-caliber Smith & Wesson at the first person he saw. That person was Cassandra Rosete. Meade was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. At the time of her death, Rosete was four months pregnant and a mother to a 9-year-old daughter. Her boyfriend shared that they had met in a sober living facility in 2012 while both were overcoming opiate addictions and had been clean since 2013.
