On a sidewalk in North Las Vegas, the life of 20-year-old Anthony Eugene Hodges, a Black male, came to a tragic end on December 30, 2016. Around 6 p.m., a passerby discovered Hodges suffering from a gunshot wound beneath a train underpass located east of Lake Mead Boulevard and Losee Road. Emergency services were called, and he was transported to University Medical Center, but the wound to his chest proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Clark County coroner's office later officially ruled his death a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath, the North Las Vegas Police Department began an investigation into the mysterious shooting. However, the case quickly presented challenges as investigators found themselves with no immediate leads or a clear motive for the crime. In the days and weeks that followed, authorities publicly stated that they had not identified any suspects in the shooting death of the young man.
The sudden and violent loss left his family, including his mother and stepfather, devastated and searching for answers that authorities were unable to provide. His mother remembered him as a compassionate and loving "mama's boy," with a bright smile and a contagious laugh. His family described a young man with a good spirit who brought joy to their lives through his humor and kindness. A GoFundMe page was established by a cousin to help with the unexpected funeral costs. Despite the family's grief and public calls for information, the investigation did not yield any publicly announced arrests or identified suspects in connection with his murder.
