In the quiet community of Silver Springs, Nevada, a grim discovery shattered the peace on October 7, 2017. Frank Evans, a 67-year-old Caucasian male, was found deceased in his home, the victim of a shocking act of violence that also claimed the lives of his wife, Coral Evans, 68, and their daughter, Rebecca Driver, 46. The tragic events unfolded when Lyon County Sheriff's deputies responded to a medical call at Driver's residence on Tonopah Avenue.
They found her deceased at the scene, and the circumstances immediately raised suspicion.
As the investigation progressed, deputies were led to the home of Frank and Coral Evans on East Third Street while attempting to make a next-of-kin notification. It was there they made the devastating discovery of the elderly couple, both of whom had been fatally shot. The case was quickly classified as a triple homicide, sending shockwaves through the small town and prompting an intensive search for the person responsible for such a heinous crime. The investigation was a high priority for the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, which assured the public that they believed it was an isolated incident with no further threat to the community.
The focus of the investigation soon turned to Scott Alan Baskette, 48, the ex-boyfriend of Rebecca Driver. The couple had recently ended a 12-year relationship just weeks before the murders. Believing Baskette had fled the area, law enforcement in Nevada contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office in California with information that he might be in their jurisdiction. On October 10, 2017, a deputy in the Willow Creek area spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one Baskette was believed to be driving. After a brief pursuit down a dirt road, Baskette's vehicle was stopped by a locked gate, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Baskette was extradited to Nevada to face charges for the three murders. In January 2019, he pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. The court learned that in the early morning of October 7, 2017, Baskette had gone to the Evans' home and shot Frank when he answered the door. He then entered the house and shot Coral. After taking their cell phones, he lured Rebecca to her home, where he shot and killed her. Following a two-day sentencing hearing, Scott Baskette was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
