On August 1, 2020, a promising young Black/African American man's life was tragically cut short in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ashton Price, a 23-year-old male, was visiting the city for the first time with his younger brother. A talented athlete and a dedicated student at Texas College with a 3.8 GPA, he had bright aspirations of becoming a stockbroker and investor after completing his business administration degree.
He was known by his family as a kind, outgoing, and unselfish individual who was always there for his loved ones.
That fateful night, Price was an innocent bystander at a crowded house party held at an illegally rented two-story home on Ruby Creek Drive. In the early morning hours, at approximately 3:15 a.m., a shootout erupted at the party. Caught in the crossfire, Price was struck by a gunshot to the chest. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Another individual was also shot but was able to get to a hospital and was later discharged.
The news of his death devastated his family. His mother, Simone Williams, was asleep at her California home when she received the confusing and heartbreaking call that her son had been shot. She immediately began the drive to Las Vegas, only to have her worst fears confirmed during the journey. His older sister, Ashley Price, remembered him as a kind person who didn't judge others and could always be relied upon by family and friends in times of need.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. However, despite the numerous people present at the party, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Ashton Price. Authorities have not released any descriptions of potential suspects or a possible motive for the shooting that ended the life of the young man with a promising future. His death is part of a dangerous trend of violence that has occurred at illegal short-term rental parties in Las Vegas.
