On a spring morning in Cortez, Colorado, the life of Dale Dewain Claxton, a 45-year-old male police officer, was brought to an abrupt and violent end. On May 29, 1998, Claxton, a three-year veteran of the Cortez Police Department, identified a stolen water truck and pulled the vehicle over on a county road.
